The Word are going to invade the space at Georges House Gallery for just under two weeks with things for you to see, do, watch and build! Come along and find out more.
Every day we will be offering you the chance to engage in the arts. Along with various exhibitors from The Wide Word exhibition, we will also be ...showing daily performances of live-art, dance and poetry along with the chance for you to engage in workshops and other aspects of the artistic process.
Come along to the gallery any day of the above exhibition to find out how you can engage. We will be playing games, learning how to perform, watching the creative process in action and doing some hands on work.
Workshops vary from dance, drawing, architectual process and sculpture building.
During the first week you can join Lucy and Alex to learn more about the creative process and develop a variety of skills including basic writing, confidence building, public reading and how to use movement.
On Monday 13th, we shall be seeking volunteers to go into the streets and find interesting materials that can be used for a workshop on the following day.
On the 14th of September Nick Shearon from The Word will be hosting a little art installation called 'The Dwelling Project' where he will be encouraging children to create a small eco village within the gallery.
The idea is to get participants to have a better understanding of the ideas of home and the environment they live in. All over the world people are forced to create homes where ever they can, from what they can. This has led to the creation of huge slum areas with people living in housing that we wouldn't see fit to inhabit. The people involved will be tasked with doing the same task. Only these kids will be in a gallery, and only have the contents of a few skips worth of junk to build stuff in.
If anyone reading this can come by, please do, in an attempt to raise awareness of world wide slum-culture city life has forced so many people into.
There is just so much going on that you will have to pop in to the gallery to find out more!

Homes For Heroes
Friday, 17 September 10
Henry Seaton’s Homes Fit for Heroes at Folkestone’s Georges House Gallery might be seen as a dream for a well ordered city or simply the re-functioned remnants of serial production - or does it hint at a lost history when failed promises of homes made to returning war weary troops sparked a revolt - a regiment of model homes occupying the gallery as the soldiers once occupied the town?

Pleasure Seekers
Friday, 15 October 10
‘Pleasure Seekers’ presents a body of paintings focusing on ideas of longing and searching. Revealing a darker side of human nature, flickering between abstraction and figurative, provocative and playful, harsh and tongue in cheek! To be continued...

Illuminated
Friday, 26 November 10
‘Illuminated’ presents a body of paintings focusing on the ritualistic approach to the act of painting. Embedded and exposed beneath the layers of paint are scars and scratches, flaws from the process of making. This exhibition is a reaction to the previous exhibition ‘Pleasure Seekers’ referring to the body and self sacrifice.
