CHARIVARI DAY 2010 "A NIGHT AT THE OPERA" 

Strange Cargo’s annual Charivari Carnival takes place on Saturday 17th July.

This year's theme is “A Night at the Opera”.

Starting at 2pm from The Stade at Folkestone Harbour, the procession will make its way up The Old High Street, through Sandgate Road in the Town Centre before turning into West Terrace and then onto The Leas. It will arrive at The Bandstand for just after 3pm where there will be finale sets from the street bands that have carried the carnival through the town.

This year’s internationally known bands are Batala, The Beatroots, Bloco Flogo, Jugna Bhangra.

The carnival will start gathering from 1pm, see you there!

Community and Teachers workshops will take place on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th June at the Peene Barn in Newington Barn, Folkestone, CT18 8BA. Costs are £20 per person for the community members and £50 per group of teachers.

The Dwelling Project 
On the 14th of September at the Strange Cargo Gallery in Folkestone Nick Shearon from The Word will be hosting a little art installation called The Dwelling Project where he will be encouraging children to create a small eco village within the gallery.

For the 2011 Folkestone Triennial Strange Cargo are producing a People’s Guidebook to Folkestone.

Stretching New Boundaries Digital Exhibition 
Strange Cargo are seeking to commission 2 experienced digital artists to create exciting artworks/installations for an experimental exhibition to explore the innovative and exciting ways that digital art and web 2.0 can be used to increase audience engagement both in the real time of the gallery and on line.

Memories of Summer 
‘Identity’ is the main source of inspiration in Martine’s work. She focuses on everyday objects and landscapes. By placing these in a particular context, Martine creates a thought-provoking and fascinating perspective – and in this way she explores how identity is created and influenced by its environment.

Come along for Public workshops at the Peene, Barn in Newington, CT18 8BA for Family Carnival workshops at Peene Barn on Saturday 3 July from 10am - 5pm. Donation of £2 per costume and children must be accompanied by an adult.
