The Ashford Giant
The tiny village of Singleton is embraced by a green necklace of woodland, that is home to a significant reptile and bird population, many of which are rare, endangered species. Strange Cargo consulted with local people, both in Singleton and the nearby village of Great Chart to discover the Giant’s appearance and character, which was firmly rooted in the flora and fauna of the surrounding countryside. The Giant slowly emerged as a beautiful woodland maiden, clothed in a cloak of shimmering foliage and crowned with a woodland coronet.
Flora was named and awoken one sunny morning in woods above Singleton, to a musical accompaniment of harps and mandolin, and delicious cream teas enjoyed in the open air.
