Charivari 2017: Double Edge

Charivari Day celebrated its 21st year in style, marking its coming of age by partnering with the 2017 Folkestone Triennial. This year, all the costumes in the parade were inspired by the Triennial's theme, "Double Edge." As the lively procession wound its way through Folkestone, spectators were treated to a vibrant display of costumes. Amidst miles of floating ribbons and a sea of glitter, hints of the upcoming Triennial artworks were revealed. The parade featured extraordinary hybrid carnival sculptures, creatively merging two objects to form something entirely new.

This year’s Charivari Day was a triumph, thanks to the incredible community and school groups, as well as our talented team of carnival artists. Over 600 extravagantly costumed participants paraded through the streets, accompanied by compelling music and rhythms provided by street bands and musicians from across the UK.

The parade journeyed up The Old High Street, through the Town Centre Precinct, and along West Terrace before reaching The Leas and culminating at The Bandstand. The festivities continued with a lively music program, featuring headliners Steve Boltz and Dead Man's Corner from 4:20 to 6:00 PM.
