Charivari 1998
Exotic Creatures
The 1998 Charivari Day carnival marked the second year of what has since become a beloved summer tradition in Folkestone. With the theme "Exotic Creatures," the parade featured vibrant costumes created through a series of workshops held at local schools and Georges House Gallery. These workshops attracted significant public interest, with many participants returning year after year. The event also connected with a London-based Carnival Training module, enhancing its reach and impact. Strange Cargo collaborated with school and community groups in three-day workshops to craft the costumes, while primary school teachers led the creation of walker costumes following a specialised masterclass.
