Charivari Day 2004:
Transports of Delights

"Transports of Delights" was the theme for Charivari Day 2004, and weeks of dedicated work went into crafting an incredible array of carnival transportation for what was set to be the best carnival ever.

However, the weather had other plans. Torrential rain, thunder, and lightning struck, flooding the town and, with great regret, the parade had to be cancelled.

Although the spectacular carnival creations never made it to the streets, their brilliance remains. Once the rain eased, the evening music programme went ahead, and the fabulous creations were returned to their makers for display.

Strange Cargo collaborated with school and community groups through three-day workshops to create the costumes. The walker costumes were crafted by primary school students after a teachers' masterclass, showcasing the creativity and effort poured into this event.
