The Hawkinge Giant

During the snowy winter of 2004 Harry the Hawkinge Giant came into being following a period of consultation with the villagers. With the village's rolling farmland and close access to Europe making it an ideal location for an airstrip in the 1920's, Hawkinge had developed to become a significant RAF base during the last war. It soon became clear from conversations with Hawkinge residents, that this history loomed very large as a significant aspect of the village's identity.

Harry was awakened in a ceremony attended by hundreds of village children and he has become a staunch and very popular representative for Hawkinge at local festivals and carnivals and as an ambassador for the UK in his many trips to European festivals and Giants gatherings.
