Jude the Liverpool Giant

Strange Cargo took to the streets of Liverpool on Tuesday 28th August to lead a spectacular pageant to celebrate the city's 800th birthday, marking the anniversary of the signing of the City Charter in 1207.

Following public consultation events, the Strange Cargo team created a lady Giant to reflect the many facets of this very famous city. Her 'Big Head' companions are two Liver birds. The artists also ran a series of carnival workshops where groups built large carnival images to wear in the pageant.

Amidst a barrage of confetti cannons and ticker tape at 12.07pm, Jude the Giant was introduced to Paul Cline, the Lord Mayor of Liverpool by Strange Cargo Artistic Director Brigitte Orasinski. He was also presented with the original design for the Giant's dress.

Jude will live in the new World Museum and has already been included on the Beatles Tour of the City.
