Jump Up

Jump Up marked a substantial change in direction for Strange Cargo in their approach to opening the Canterbury Festival. A traditional celebratory parade had marked the start of the Festival for a number of years, but a new Festival Director led to a collaborative, performance based celebration in the Urban City Centre.

Working with Lea Andersons, The Cholmondeleys and The Featherstonehaughs, a new choreographed work was produced which was performed by local dance students. The striking event also included large scale costume, live video feed and intense drumming rhythms, delivered by the electrifying Dhol Foundation.

The experience entranced and exhilarated the capacity crowd who had gathered in Rose Square to celebrate the opening evening of the Festival.
