The Hawkinge Giant
During the snowy winter of 2004, Harry the Hawkinge Giant was brought to life following extensive consultations with the villagers. With its rolling farmland and proximity to Europe, Hawkinge became an ideal location for an airstrip in the 1920s, later developing into a significant RAF base during the Second World War. Through conversations with local residents, it became clear that this rich history was a crucial part of the village’s identity.
Harry was officially awakened in a ceremony attended by hundreds of village children, and he has since become a beloved figure in Hawkinge. He proudly represents the village at local festivals and carnivals, and serves as an ambassador for the UK during his many trips to European festivals and Giants gatherings.
