Stifford Primary’s Sculptural Burn

A project designed to clear the classrooms of clutter in order to look to the future and celebrate the schools close proximity and historic connection to the River Thames.

Teachers who were taught by Strange Cargo, delivered lantern workshops to the children, whilst a very large Thames Barge sculptural bonfire was being built.

The bonfire was a fabulous way to say goodbye to the clutter, but more significantly, each child could dispose of any bad memories they might harbour by writing a private note, with a personal message, that they each committed to the flames.

A lantern parade started the evening’s celebrations and the children held their breath in anticipation of the huge sculpture on the school field being lit. A fantastic firework display preceded the lighting of the bonfire sculpture, which created a suitable inferno, and a heralded a celebration of the future.
