The Old High Street Relief Fund

Two buildings on Folkestone's historic Old High Street were in a state of disrepair, unsightly, and potentially hazardous, necessitating hoardings to secure the sites.

Shepway District Council commissioned Strange Cargo to develop transformative solutions that would secure the properties while being both durable and visually appealing—enhancing rather than detracting from the area's character.

Strange Cargo created two bas-relief panels that incorporated imagery reflecting the life and landscape of the street. The panels featured lines from John Hegley’s poem, "A Disturbing Kerbing," which was inspired by his recent visit to The Old High Street.
