The Zine Library 2016

A zine (/ˈziːn/ zeen), short for fanzine or magazine, is typically a self-published work with a limited circulation, featuring original or appropriated texts and images, often reproduced using a photocopier.

Watch our short film by Joel Snowman, showcasing the 2016 Zine Library event. This gathering celebrated the diversity and accessibility of the zine format in the digital age, with submissions from around the world. The event featured playful and creative interpretations of various subjects, alongside small independent publications, truly honoring the spirit of DIY and handheld creativity.

For the third installment of Strange Cargo’s Zine Library, we welcomed a diverse group of talented zine makers who helped make this event a success, attracting participants of all ages and abilities. The weekend also featured an exciting music lineup, including performances by Natalie Evans, Alocasia Garden, Benjin, Dan Addison, and Ed Orasinski. In addition, visitors enjoyed workshops and a vast collection of zines to read and purchase from around the globe.

We extend our sincere thanks to our sponsors who made this event possible: ART31, Shepway District Council Cheriton Ward Plan, Cllr. Janet Holben, and Kent County Council Cllrs. Hod Birkby and Bob Neaves.
