The Zine Workshop 2016

Margate-based artists Steve Alan, Jo Murray, and Bob Henderson hosted an engaging zine-making workshop where participants had the opportunity to create their very own zines. They guided everyone through the creative process of homemade self-published magazines, where you are the editor, and "cut and paste" involves scissors, not just keyboard shortcuts. In anticipation of Strange Cargo's Zine Library weekend on October 1st and 2nd, we invited people aged 16 to 25, as well as others, to join us for this free, artist-led workshop.

A zine (/ˈziːn/ zeen), short for fanzine or magazine, is typically a self-published work with limited circulation, featuring original or appropriated texts and images, often reproduced via photocopier.

The workshop embodied the DIY spirit of zine culture, with all materials provided and a collection of past Zine Library submissions available for inspiration. It was a fantastic opportunity to explore the world of zines in a fun and creative way—an ideal way to spend an afternoon!
