Yemanja

'Water carries us to other waters, to other lands, to other people'

Yemanja was inspired by the festival of the sea in Salvador, Brazil and fused carnival traditions from across the world, when artists from across the UK, Trinidad and Brazil created the spectacular elements to open the 2002 Canterbury Festival, that included giant puppets, carnival costumes, live music and dance.

Strange Cargo's collaboration with Kinetika and Trinidadian sculptural designer Murphy Winters created a spectaclar fusion of imagery and evolved the palette of techniques the company used to engage participants community celebration.
