Everywhere Means Something to Someone: The People’s Guidebooks
Our infamous series of guidebooks, began as an artwork commission for the Folkestone Triennial in 2011. Strange Cargo was commissioned by the curator Andrea Schlieker to make a new public artwork and the resulting piece came in the form of a guidebook, filled with content provided by local residents.
Everywhere Means Something to Someone: The People’s Guidebook to Folkestone provided a glimpse beneath the surface of the town, sharing with visitors some of the intimate knowledge that makes the town feel like home for the people who live there.
Since, guidebooks have been made with communities across Romney Marsh, Dover, Rochester, Chatham, Gillingham, Sittingbourne, Faversham, Gravesend, Herne Bay, Whitstable, Margate and more.
