Strange Cargo created their iconic, Everywhere Means Something to Someone - the people's guidebook to Folkestone, as one of the 19 official artworks for the Folkestone Triennial 2011 public art festival. Strange Cargo was commissioned by the curator Andrea Schlieker to make a new public artwork and the resulting piece came in the form of a guidebook, filled with content provided by local residents. The guidebook provides a glimpse beneath the surface of the town, sharing with visitors some of the intimate knowledge that makes the town feel like home for the people who live here. The book is full of advice on places to visit, personal stories, memories and walks. With a wonderful introduction written by travel writer Dea Birkett, the guidebook is a rich source of local knowledge and provides fascinating insights into a communities love for its own town.
